Background:
Through California College of the Arts’ Experience Studio, I collaborated with a team of designers to create a “phygital” experience, engaging participants through physical and digital stimuli to bridge the experience seamlessly.
The Challenge:
Our team aimed to create a meaningful jewelry experience that commemorates important relationships that are not confined by gender expectations. We focused on designing a personalized experience that could expand the jewelry space to include new customer segments.
The Solution:
Goldlink is a jewelry experience that allows participants to craft a special memory and fuse it into a bracelet to keep or gift. Participants entering the pop-up experience are greeted with a memory wall that inspires them to reflect on memories they want to commemorate. By scanning a QR code, they are taken to a digital survey that allows them to submit a story and photo, and select a word to represent the memory. Our jewelry experts stamp the word into a personalized bracelet in an open studio, allowing participants to observe the process. Each participant is presented with a branded card with a printed photo, story, and personalized bracelet in under 10 minutes.
My Contribution:
I served as the operational lead and supported with concept research and prototyping. With my event management experience, I maintained our project budget, oversaw purchasing, and designed the run-of-show and script for our pop-up experience. I also conducted observational research, user interviews, digital and physical prototyping, and developed concept storyboards.
The Impact:
During our pop-up jewelry experience, we created a personalized bracelet and a memory card for 22 participants in 90 minutes. Our pop-up received overwhelmingly positive reviews for our branding and experience design, ultimately selling out of inventory and laying the groundwork to launch an impactful jewelry experience with strong brand awareness.
